Ultra Portable Cooking Options to Take with You on the Road

There's nothing better than hopping on your motorcycle and heading down the road for a long trip. Maybe you'll meet up with some biker friends. Maybe you'll drive across several states to see the sights. Maybe you'll just ride out and see where the road takes you.

My 15,000 mile/24,140 km ride to Central America was full of excitement and hardship. From the accidents to the good times, it was an amazing trip overall. Along the way I encountered bugs, cows, monkeys, machetes, donkeys, volcanoes, coconuts, mountains and much more. Once upon a time a teacher in elementary school told me that all great stories begin with ‘once upon a time’ – which is the only reason this story does. It was a deep dark winter’s night as I sat at the kitchen table of my poorly illuminated little apartment thumbing the pages of a tattered local newspaper that was dated 4 months prior – during a time when the sun still stood proudly in the sky well past 9pm and I didn’t rely on dried pieces of wood to feed the flames that provided me with both heat and light.

Whenever and wherever riding enthusiasts congregate and discuss the best places to ride, the old standards like the Pacific Coast Highway, Cabot Trail and Deal’s Gap come up often. I recently started hearing about another one lately that had me intrigued - The Lake Superior Circle Tour. The subject of perhaps the most famous Canadian ballad of all time, Gordon Lightfoot’s song about an ill-fated ship named the Edmund Fitzgerald and its 29 crew members warns of the peril such a treacherous body of water can hold.

I love living in Toronto. The motorcycle community is great. There are motorcycle meets almost every day of the week, loads of events, and we still get free motorcycle parking.

With the entire United States in the mirrors of her Bonneville, Madeline "MISSRIDER" Velazquez  shares her time on the road, the concerns she had on her trip, the people she met, and her next big ride.

On July 4th, 2011, Madeline "MISSRIDER" Velazquez set out on the ride of a lifetime: travelling across the United States by motorcycle, all alone, aboard her Triumph Bonneville.
