The spontaneous and unplanned rides are sometimes the most fun. It started with a text message from my girlfriend: “What are we going to do today?” Before long we found ourselves near the historic village of Kleinburg, Ontario. Kleinburg is surrounded by beautiful hills and branches of the Humber river.
The town is picturesque and its early 1800s origins have been left unspoiled.
Spontaneous motorcycle rides often come with no destination in mind, such was the case for this trip. We had passed through Kleinburg before, briefly, but the town’s small size meant we were in and out before we’d even thought to get off of our bikes and take a look around.
Today we wisely chose to take that moment to park the bikes and do a little on foot exploring.
Islington Ave is the main street through Kleinburg, featuring century old homes and buildings on either side of the road. The village has kept its quaint appearance and blends new in old among the hills. Kleinburg is home to the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, however we were much more interested in the Murray-Diceman house.
This exact weekend last year we took our motorcycles to Niagara Falls. This year we found we didn’t need to travel so far to find beauty. We continued our route to Duffy’s Lane in Bolton, an excellent motorcycle road before travelling north to Hockley Valley.
